“In The Hourglass Sanatorium, space and time blend seamlessly into one another - the protagonist spinning in a memory gyre. The Sanatorium is not dissimilar to Saragossa’s Inn – functioning as both time machine and dream engine. Temptation (possibly at the hands of the devil) from an otherworldly portal, and the impending death of a parent living on borrowed time in a phantasmagoric sanatorium, test Alfonse and Jozef’s devotion to their fundamental beliefs.”
